The brain is an extremely complex organ located at the top of the spinal column and resting upon the axis of the brain stem. Its firm gelatin-like consistency is cushioned by several layers of membrane (dura) and is cushioned in a fluid (cerebrospinal fluid) which allows it, in a sense, to float within a hard non-expandable shell of bone (skull).
You, or someone you know, may have a brain injury. If so, your life has been changed. Depending on how bad this injury is, life will never return to the way it once was. This is a reality. When a person sustains a traumatic brain injury, whether from an accident, tumor, stroke, or any other cause, his or her life will never be the same. And this change is difficult.
Hello! My name is Theresa. I am a person living with a brain injury. I´ve had my brain injury for three years. My brain injury is due to an attack caused by my ex-husband. He whiplashed me deliberately by making my head go backwards. The whiplash caused me to have blurred vision, a seizure, and a stroke.

On July 8, 2005 our 15-year-old son Zack was involved in a serious car accident and was Stat-flown to University Hospital, Louisville. When we arrived at the hospital, they told us he had suffered a traumatic brain injury and might not live. He had a large blood clot on the right side of his brain and a serious bruise on the left. They had to remove his right scull so his brain could swell or he would die.
